Energy costs in the Boston metropolitan area increased 3.1 percent in April because of higher gasoline prices, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said today.
After increasing by 34 cents in March, the price of a gallon of gasoline in Boston rose an additional 20 cents in April to $2.77, said the bureau, which is part of the US Department of Labor.
The average price of a gallon of gas in Boston was lower than the national average, which stood at $2.909; over the year, gasoline prices in Boston increased by 2.5 percent, the bureau said.
