High schoolers graduating with experience

"Animal House" fraternities are so last century, and many teenagers have already had work experience by the time they graduate from high school.

Those are two findings from a nationwide survey of graduating high school seniors conducted by Monster, an online employment Web site with offices in Maynard.

Two-thirds of those surveyed already have work experience, the survey found, and the presence of fraternities and sororities on campus was cited as the least important factor in attracting college freshman, Monster said.

"Monster's inaugural High School Graduate Survey shows that seniors are not passively waiting for opportunity to knock on their door - they have strategic post-graduation plans and they realize its never too early to consider their long-term career path," Diana Nicholson, a Monster senior vice president, in a statement.

Monster is the flagship brand of Monster Worldwide Inc. of New York.

Monster has a relationship with The Boston Globe; last week, the Globe, Boston.com, and Monster unveiled a co-branded web site for Boston area employers and job seekers.
