Luminus wins lighting award
Luminus Devices Inc. said today it has won an industry award for its PhlatLight technology.
Headquartered in Woburn, Luminus is commercializing a new solid-state lighting technology called Phlatlight for the television market.
According to the company, PhlatLight technology is powerful enough to illuminate microdisplay-based rear-projection televisions, producing brilliant image quality.
Lamps used in traditional rear-projection TVs often use mercury; TVs with PhlatLight technology are more environmentally friendly because they eliminate the mercury lamp that requires repeated replacement during the life of the TV, Luminus said.
The award Luminus won was the 2007 Display Component of the Year Silver Award from the Society of Information Display, a California-based trade group, the company said.
