The management consulting division of Marsh & McLennan Cos., which has 235 employees in Boston, has a new name: Oliver Wyman.

The name will cover units previously known as Mercer Oliver Wyman (advising financial services companies), Mercer Management Consulting (advising corporations on strategic and operational issues), and Mercer Delta Organizational Consulting (organizational and leadership issues).

The firms are uniting as one company with 2,500 employees in more than 40 cities around the world.

Marsh & McLennan, a New York professional services firm, is known locally for its ownership of Putnam Investments of Boston; in February, it agreed to sell Putnam to Power Financial Corp., a Canadian firm, for $3.9 billion.
