MIT $100K winners unveiled
Companies called Robopsy and Bagazo were the top two winners of the MIT $100K, organizers of the student-run entrepreneurship competition said.
Robopsy, of Boston, invented a robotic device to help radiologists perform tumor biopsies.
Bagazo, of Haiti, developed a process to create cooking fuel from agricultural waste, such as corncobs.
Each team receives $30,000 to apply toward building businesses based on their innovations.
Two other teams got $10,000 each to launch energy-related businesses; the final two teams received $10,000 each for work on drug-resistant bacteria and water supply sanitation.
The contest ‘‘has traditionally fielded a number of winners in life sciences and technology, chairwoman Karina Drees said. ‘‘This year’s shift towards energy ... reflects R&D trends in MIT’s labs, as well as the broader marketplace.’’
