Alfred M. Zeien, 77, has resigned from Inverness Medical Innovations' board of directors for health reasons, the Waltham maker of diagnostic products said today.

Zeien was chief executive of Boston-based Gillette Co. for much of the 1990s, before Gillette was acquired by Procter & Gamble.

In August, Zeien gave up his seat on the board of another company, EMC Corp. of Hopkinton, the data-storage giant.
