Great Clips hopes to give the Hub a haircut
Even with anxieties stirred up by concerns about the US economy in a possible recession, folks need haircuts and stylish coiffures - at least that's the reasoning of Great Clips Inc., a Minnesota-based chain of "walk-in hair salons" that has big plans for this part of New England.
Great Clips announced this week that it is looking for local franchisee candidates; the company says it projects to have more than 200 salons in Greater Boston area eventually, with hopes to have at least 10 open by the end of 2009.
Later this year, Great Clips added, it plans to open its first New England salon at the Rockingham Mall in Salem, N.H.
In a statement, a company vice president asserted, "This business concept has proven to be recession resistant."
