In contemporary women's fashion, kate spade is a byword for stylish handbags, apparel, jewelry, and shoes.

As buffs of fine leather goods know, kate spade grew up in Kansas City with a keen sense of tony couture and a disdain for capital letters. The brand was acquired by Liz Claiborne Inc., a New York apparel and fragrance company, in 2006.

“We are proud to host the third kate spade location in Massachusetts,” Debora Konig, director of marketing at the Mall at Chestnut Hill, said in a statement. “It’s a remarkable brand that we’re excited to offer to our shoppers, and we’re confident the store will be a great success here.”

In describing itself and its merchandise in prose gloriously free of capital letters, the kate spade chain said: "kate spade was founded in 1993 with six simple handbags that shook up what had been a quiet accessories category. fifteen years and a handbag revolution later, wit and playful sophistication are hallmarks of everything 'kate spade,' a world that now includes bags for day and night, totes and luggage, shoes, jewelry, stationery, eyewear, and a home collection made up of chic pieces for the table and unique gifts."
