"The creation of Merriam-Webster's Advanced Learner's English Dictionary reflects the reality that English has become an international language and that American English, in particular, is now being used and studied every day by millions of people around the world."," John M. Morse, Merriam-Webster's publisher and president, said in a statement.

The Advanced Learner's English Dictionary has a suggested retail price of about $35, the company said.

Merriam-Webster acquired the rights to revise and publish Noah Webster's dictionaries in 1843; since then, it says it has maintained an ongoing commitment to innovation, scholarship, and love of language.
