Palomar says it has won a lawsuit against Candela
Palomar Medical Technologies Inc. of Burlington said that a jury has found that Palomar's products do not infringe on the patents of a rival, Candela Corp. of Wayland.
Issuing its own statement, Candela said that it strongly disagrees with the jury's decision and added that it is now evaluating its options.
Both companies make products that use light or lasers for aesthetic procedures such as hair removal.
Palomar noted that the trial took place in United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
According to Palomar, Candela accused eight Palomar handpieces of infringing on claims of Candela patents.
Palomar chief executive Joseph P. Caruso said in a statement, "We are very pleased with the jury's decision. The jury's verdict completes our win in this lawsuit by finding our products to be non-infringing and the patent claims at issue to be invalid. We are also happy that the costs associated with this trial are behind us."
