14 Verizon managers fired for falsifying work reports

Verizon Communications Inc., the region's largest telephone company, said it fired 14 managers in the Boston area about two weeks ago for "falsifying company reports" that track the hours employees work.

Verizon spokesman Phil Santoro said the misconduct did not affect customers, but violated the company's code of conduct.

Separately, Verizon recently said it was cutting 2,700 management-level jobs nationwide, about 1 percent of its total workforce, including an unspecified number in Massachusetts, where it has about 13,000 employees.

  1. I think these people were used as scapegoats, because, once again, useless upper management screwed up and had to blame someone other than themselves. We have too many vice-presidents that don't have a clue about the telecommunications business. They couldn't find dial tone with a map.The most difficult part of thier job is putting on a tie in the morning. These people have no experience like managers in the past,(management then was comprised of former ss techs,c.o. techs,etc.).Instead,we have managers with business degrees that are totally useless in our line of work.Of course the company was run much better in the past and people actually liked upper management. We are going down hill and we know who is to blame.

  1. Concerned Tech - You got that right it is all about crunching the numbers and to hell with customer service and satisfaction. The land line end of the business has gone to hell. Upper management does blame lower management for the mistakes that they do in their ivory towers. Make the numbers or be gone, my eyes are closed on how you do it, just don't get caught, if you do you are on your own. With all the RIF's upper management is doing of the lower management it is going to be worse.

  1. The 1st level managers did what they were told, some didn't and were still layed off for low productivity. Funny how their boss excaped without a scratch, I'm sure its not over yet, bring on the lawers.

  1. Joe Bucciarelli was the cause of all this. Security was looking at him and he put a spin on the whole investigation to take the heat off him. I hear he did the same in NY. Rumor is that's why he was re-assigned to New England.
