AMSC partners with Chinese manufacturer
American Superconductor Corp., a Devens-based energy technologies company, said it has agreed to help a Chinese manufacturer become a wind-turbine supplier.
American Superconductor, which refers to itself as AMSC, said it has signed an agreement with Shenyang Blower Works Co. Ltd., a Chinese industrial equipment manufacturer with about $1 billion in annual sales.
Under the agreement, an AMSC subsidiary will provide Shenyang with designs for its 2 megawatt doubly fed induction wind turbine.
This co-development agreement provides Shenyang with the right to manufacture AMSC 2 megawatt wind turbines in China and sell the systems globally, said AMSC, which added that Shenyang expects to begin series production in 2010.
AMSC's press release did not disclose any financial details about the agreement.
In June, AMSC disclosed that it received a $450 million order to supply wind turbine components to another Chinese company, Sinovel Wind Corp.
