Massachusetts gas prices fell 17 cents a gallon in AAA Southern New England's latest weekly survey, which was released today.

According to the survey, the average price for a gallon of self-serve, regular unleaded gas was $2.289.

It was the eighth consecutive week of declining prices, and during that period, prices have tumbled by more than $1.30 per gallon, AAA Southern New England said.

The average price for a gallon of gas in Massachusetts is currently 4 cents above the national average for regular unleaded of $2.249, said AAA Southern New England, which added that a year ago at this time, the average price in Massachusetts was $2.979. (By Chris Reidy, Globe staff)
