Nortel Networks, which has 740 employees in Massachusetts, announced plans today to cut 4 percent of its workforce worldwide or 1,300 workers.
But Nortel spokesman Jay Barta declined to say how many Massachusetts workers at the telecommunications equipment maker would be affected .
The latest job cuts, which are in addition to more than 2,000 job cuts announcement earlier this year, are one of several measures Nortel is making to cope with falling revenue. The company has also frozen pay and taken other steps to cut expenses.
Nortel's local operations, which are mainly in Billerica, include a variety of departments, including sales, operations and marketing.
