EMC Corp., the data storage company in Hopkinton, has appointed Sanjay Mirchandani as chief information officer. He will be responsible for driving technological innovations to meet the current and future needs of the business. Mirchandani, 44, most recently served as senior vice president leading the EMC office of globalization.

Caritas Christi, the health care system owned by the Archdiocese of Boston, announced that Richard Kropp has joined the six-hospital system as its senior vice president for human resources. Most recently Kropp served as vice president of human resources at Cape Cod Health Care, a two-hospital system with more than 400 physicians and 4,000 employees.

BackBay Communications, a Boston-based public relations firm focused on financial and professional services, announced that Gillian Seely has joined the company as an account executive. Before BackBay, Seely was employed as an analyst for a defense contractor, performing research in areas such as strategic communications.

NewVantage Partners, a Boston firm of experienced executives dedicated to business and technology planning and execution, has announced that Joseph Smialowski has joined the firm as a general partner. Smialowski is a former partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers, and he has served as an executive vice president at Freddie Mac and as a vice chairman and a chief information officer at FleetBoston Financial, now part of Bank of America Corp.

Stream Global Services Inc., a Boston-based provider of integrated business process outsourcing services, announced two additions to its executive team. Stephen Farrell joins the company as executive vice president and chief financial officer, while Bruce Dawson comes aboard as senior vice president of business development. Before joining Stream, Farrell served as president of PolyMedica Corp. Dawson spent much of his previous time in the global outsourcing space, with companies such as TeleTech Holdings and MATRIXX Marketing, now part of Convergys.
