The Hanover Insurance Group Inc., a super regional property and casualty company headquartered in Worcester, announced that Helen Ryan Savaiano has been named vice president of management liability for the company's commercial lines business. Savaiano comes to the Hanover from W.R. Berkley Corp. of Chicago, where she held numerous senior-level management positions, most recently, vice president of the company's small business unit.

InVivo Therapeutics Corp., a Cambridge medical device company, named John Baker as its chief information officer and Christopher Pritchard as director of research and development. As InVivo’s chief information Officer, Baker is responsible for ensuring the integrity of data collected as InVivo proceeds through preclinical and anticipated clinical trials. Baker's resume includes stints at Performance Analytics LCC, a consulting company he founded, and at Global Crossing.. As director of research and development, Pritchard will play a key role in developing InVivo’s technology, which is focused on combining stem cells and polymers to prevent secondary injury and promote the growth of new tissue in traumatic spinal cord injury. Pritchard, who holds engineering degrees from MIT and Oxford University, has worked on a variety of health-oriented engineering projects in the United States and abroad.

Averion International Corp., a Southborough firm that supports life sciences companies when they engage in clinical trials, announced the appointment of Alison Messom as its global head of project management. In that role, Messom will oversee all aspects of Project Management concentrating on strategy, training and enhanced quality procedures within Averion's Clinical Operations Management team. She has held various senior management positions at i3 Research, most recently as executive director of its clinical monitoring international unit.

A British marketing software company called smartFOCUS announced that Curt Bloom has been named president of smartFOCUS International, a new position that reflects the company's increasing investment in the US market. SmartFOCUS earlier this year bolstered its US presence by acquiring ASTECH InterMedia, supplier of data-driven marketing solutions for the news media industry. Formerly managing director or international operations at smartFOCUS, Bloom will work out of the company's Newton office.
