Achim von Leoprechting has been appointed as vice president and general manager of cellular imaging and analysis solutions at PerkinElmer Inc., a Waltham life sciences company. In this role, von Leoprechting will be responsible for driving the cellular imaging business for PerkinElmer. Before his appointment, von Leoprechting was the European sales director within the company's Bio-discovery business unit, where he led growth in instrument and reagent sales. He has been with the company in a variety of technology, sales, and marketing leadership roles since PerkinElmer acquired his previous employer, Packard BioScience, in 2002.

James M. Laing is the new president of Perini Corp.'s civil division in Peekskill, NY, which operates throughout the Eastern Seaboard. Perini is the giant construction firm based in Framingham. Laing will lead the combined East Coast Civil operations for Perini Corp. through the substantial program of road, bridge, transit, rail and general infrastructure work anticipated during the next few years. Laing has been involved in civil construction operations since 1983, most recently with Tutor-Saliba Corp., the newly acquired subsidiary of Perini Corp.

First Wind, a wind power company with US offices in Newton, announced that it has named three people to its executive management team. Kurt Adams, who has served as First Wind's senior vice president of transmission since May, was promoted to executive vice president and chief development officer. Carol J. Grant has joined the company as senior vice president of external affairs. Grant, former chief of operations for the city of Providence, comes to the company with 30 years of executive experience in law, general management, and public affairs. And Lori Erickson has joined the company as senior vice president of human resources. Before joining First Wind, Erickson served as senior vice president of global human resources for Monster Worldwide, parent company of Monster.com.
