bachrach1201.jpg The Environmental League of Massachusetts announced today the formation of a new alliance with leading businesses in Massachusetts.

The alliance, known as the ELM Corporate Council, is designed to advance shared goals via a new advocacy voice for responsible public policy, the league said.

The league's president, George Bachrach (right), noted in a statement: "The notion that a healthy environment and a healthy economy are in conflict is simply false. Massachusetts companies have been leaders in lowering their carbon footprint and developing business practices that both protect the environment and expand their businesses. We need to bring this message more forcefully to both Beacon Hill and the public at large."

Members of the corporate council include Cambridge biotechnology company Genzyme Corp., the Quincy-based Stop & Shop supermarket chain, and Millipore Corp., a Billerica company that provides technologies, tools and services for the discovery, development, and production of drugs and medical devices, the league said.
