GateHouse request for temporary injunction against Boston.com is denied
Citing procedural reasons, a US District Court judge rejected GateHouse Media Inc.'s request for a temporary restraining order to prevent Boston.com's new community websites from linking to GateHouse newspaper stories, according to a record of the hearing released today.
Yesterday, GateHouse, which publishes 125 papers in Massachusetts, sued the New York Times Co. - which owns the Boston Globe and Boston.com - complaining that the company violated copyright laws by routinely posting the headlines and first sentences from GateHouse stories, along with hyperlinks to full text.
Instead of deciding whether to grant a restraining order immediately, Judge William G. Young said the court would consider an injunction after a jury trial, scheduled to begin Jan. 5.
