As recently as two to three weeks ago, Bernard L. Madoff approached two investors in his inner circle -- Carl Shapiro and Robert Jaffe -- to ask them to place more of their money with him, a Palm Beach spokeswoman for both men confirmed today. The Shapiro family has lost about $545 million in Madoff’s $50 billion Ponzi scheme, $145 million of that in their charitable foundation run out of Boston. Jaffe, who is Shapiro’s son-in-law, worked for Madoff in Boston and Palm Beach, Fla., helping to attract funds to Madoff’s New York firm. The New York Post first reported the investments.
