Plymouth Town Manager Mark Sylvia is leaving his post to head the new Green Communities Division of the state Department of Energy Resources, according to the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

Sylvia will be charged with helping cities and towns become more energy efficient, take on renewable-energy projects, and deal with clean power issues. His office is expected to dole out about $10 million annually in grants that will partially funded by the auctioning of greenhouse gas emissions credits.

Sylvia, who will be paid a salary of $117,000, is scheduled to start his new job in February.
