iphone1202.jpg Vlingo Corp. of Cambridge announced today the availability of its application for Apple Inc.'s iPhones on the Apple App Store.

Vlingo said in a press release, "This voice-powered application eliminates the need for typing and gives users the ability to dial their contacts, search the Web, access Google Maps, and send status updates for Facebook and Twitter with the power of voice."

According to vlingo, its application will bring added simplicity to the iPhone by reducing much of the user's reliance on typing and making "mobile data and applications easier to find and use."

With the mantra of "Why tap when you can talk?" vlingo describes its service as "a voice-powered user interface that unlocks access to mobile phone wireless data services."
