BU launches investigative journalism collaborative
Boston University said it has launched the New England Center for Investigative Reporting, a multimedia investigative reporting collaborative focused on local and regional issues.
Based in the Journalism Department of BUís College of Communication, the initiative called the New England Center for Investigative Reporting, or NECIR, will produce in-depth investigative news reports with its media partners, BU said in a press release.
BU said its media partners include The Boston Globe; Boston.com, the Globe's website; New England Cable News; WBUR-FM, a local public radio station; and New England Ethnic News, a Web-based news service for ethnic media.
"BU journalism students, working as reporter trainees, will help research stories, guided by a faculty of veteran journalists," BU said in a press release, which added: "The nonpartisan, nonprofit center also will serve as a laboratory for experimenting with how best to deliver long-form investigative content to online audiences. Its investigative reports will be made available in forms suitable for newspapers, broadcast outlets, and online news sites and posted on the centerís interactive website, www.necir-bu.org.
