lifesciencecenter121.jpgA new 700,000 square-foot research center in Boston's Longwood Medical Area is nearly fully leased, the center's owner said.

With Kowa Company Ltd. of Japan just agreeing to occupy about 24,000 square feet of space and with Children's Hospital Boston announcing a recent lease expansion, the Center for Life Science|Boston is 91 percent leased, said the owner, BioMed Realty Trust Inc., a real estate investment trust headquartered in San Diego.

Kowa has a pharmaceutical division, BioMed Realty noted in a press release.

According to a Globe story in 2006, BioMed Realty agreed to buy the 18-story center from developer Lyme Properties and the Scottish Widows Investment Partnership.

The center's first tenants moved in during the second quarter of last year, a BioMed Realty spokesman said.

The building has received gold status pre-certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, from the US Green Building Council, BioMed Realty said.
