Menino plans tax event
Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino is scheduled to join members of the Boston Earned Income Tax Credit campaign to kick off the tax season and the opening of 25 free tax prep sites, his office said.
At a 2 p.m. event in City Hall's Eagle Room today, Menino is expected to urge Boston residents to take note of the fact that many working class families may qualify for federal and state tax credits that can result in earned-income tax credit refunds of up to $5,547, the mayor's office said in a media advisory.
The advisory noted that the income threshold this year is $42,000.
According to the mayor's office, millions of dollars of these earned income tax credits go unclaimed each year because people don't know about them.
