One Laptop plans donation to Gaza children
One Laptop per Child said it is donating 5,000 XO laptops to the United Nations Relief and Workers Agency for Palestinian refugee children in Gaza.
Headquartered in Cambridge, One Laptop per Child is a nonprofit whose mission is to provide every child in the world access to a modern education.
"Given the recent damage done to schools in what is already a very poor and very isolated part of the world, it is more important than ever to give these Palestinian children access to rugged, connected laptops that will open up worlds of knowledge and hope to each of them," Nicholas Negroponte, founder of One Laptop per Child, said in a statement. "It is our hope that this small but important donation will spur others to act now."
Earlier this month, the foundation disclosed that it had suffered from a significant drop in charitable giving due to the economic downturn; One Laptop per Child said then that it was forced to down-size its staff. To read a Globe story on that subject, please click here.
