At the Boston Security Analysts Society annual market-outlook dinner Wednesday night at the InterContinental Boston Hotel, Whitman investigator Harry Markopolos was presented with a silver whistle in recognition of his efforts to call attention to New York money manager Bernard Madoff.

Markopolos spent years trying unsuccessfully to alert regulators to his suspicions before Madoff allegedly admitted in December to running what would be a record $50 billion Ponzi scheme. Markopolos has since been hailed as a key whistleblower in the case and last night was presented the award by the Analysts Society, of which he is a past president.

In the video clip below, Markopolos discusses how he thinks Madoff distributed investors' money.
