ceralogo219.jpg A new study using research from Cambridge Energy Research Associates examines such topics as the strategic significance of water, water's role in energy production, and how energy is used in providing water.

The report is titled "Thirsty Energy: Water and Energy in the 21st Century," and it is the product of a collaboration between the World Economic Forum and Cambridge Energy Research Associates, an IHS Inc. company also known as CERA.

One report finding: "Energy's share of water is likely to be squeezed in the future in many parts of the world."

"Understanding how to best optimize the use of water and energy in a carbon-constrained environment is becoming critical for both business leaders and policymakers," CERA chairman and IHS executive vice president Daniel Yergin said in a statement. "Energy companies will increasingly be called upon to be partners in managing the world's water resources, along with agriculture and other large users."
