Robert Y. Emmert has joined McCarthy Capital as a partner. McCarthy Capital is a private equity firm based in Omaha. Emmert will manage the Eastern US region from the firm's Boston office. His primary responsibilities will include evaluating, structuring, and making investments and managing portfolio companies. Emmert joins McCarthy Capital after 12 years with the Boston-based private equity firm Alta Communications, where he was a general partner.

Andy Cutler is the new chief strategy officer of Mercury, a Boston multichannel marketing agency. Through his career, Cutler has worked with such companies as Staples, IKEA, Borders Books, IBM, General Motors, and Four Seasons Hotels.

Raymond Smith, M.D., was recently elected by his peers to serve as president of the medical staff at North Shore Medical Center. Smith, a member of the NSMC medical staff, will act as a liaison between the medical center’s 650 board-certified physicians as well as the NSMC board of trustees and administration.
