The Boston Red Sox may not win the World Series in 2009, but Fenway Park is projected to be tops in hot dog consumption among big league ball parks this baseball season, according to a study from the good folks at the National Hot Dog & Sausage Council.
The council projects that nearly 22 million hot dogs will be eaten at Major League ball parks this season and that Fenway Park will serve up more than 1.5 million of them; behind Fenway, ball parks in Philadelphia and Los Angeles placed second and third.
Given those impressive stats, the council said it is petitioning for a rewrite of "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" to include a reference to the hot dog.
