Patriots are poised to mark Arbor Day
The New England Patriots Charitable Foundation is poised to kick off a 10-city "re-greening project" in Lawrence today, which as all tree buffs know, happens to be Arbor Day, the Patriots said.
According to Arborday.org, Americans mark Arbor Day on the last Friday in April, and they celebrate it by encouraging folks to plant new trees and take good care of existing ones. (The image that appears with this post was taken from the Arborday.org website.)
In a media advisory, the Patriots noted that its foundation has awarded a three-year grant to the Urban Ecology Institute; the grant's goal is to help "re-green New England cities."
Plans call for former Patriots player Roland James to be on hand for today's ceremony along with such local worthies as US Representative Niki Tsongas and Lawrence Mayor Michael J. Sullivan, the Patriots said.
