Officials for mall operator Simon Property Group Inc. said they are in talks with Target Corp., the national discount chain, to open another anchor store at South Shore Plaza in Braintree.

Under discussion is whether a roughly 150,000-square-foot Target store would occupy some space in a new wing of South Shore Plaza now under construction, said Simon, whose national mall portfolio includes roughly a dozen shopping centers in Massachusetts.

In a press release, Simon officials said that they are currently working with the Town of Braintree on the Target permitting process.

“Target would complement the existing store mix at South Shore Plaza and create an additional destination for shoppers,”
Judy Tullius, the manager of South Shore Plaza, said in a statement.

The press release also noted that construction is underway on Nordstrom, an anchor tenant for South Shore Plaza’s new wing; Nordstom is scheduled to open on March 26.

"The expansion wing is currently in the second phase of construction with the completion of the structure, skylight, and exterior walls," the press release said.
