Agios Pharmaceuticals appoints leadership team

Agios Pharmaceuticals said that David Schenkein, M.D., will join the Cambridge company as chief executive in August.

Duncan Higgons will join the company as chief operating officer, Agios said in a press release.

Agios said that its vision is to lead the development and translation of cancer metabolism biology and decades of metabolic biochemistry into novel cancer therapeutics.

Schenkein currently serves as senior vice president of clinical hematology/oncology at Genentech, Inc. and Higgons most recently served as chief operating officer, president, and interim chief executive at Archemix Corp.
