Mass. winter resort enjoys a record winter
Officials say a record 275,000 people visited Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort in Hancock last winter during a down economy.
Resort spokeswoman Katie Fogel tells the North Adams Transcript that the surge in visitors to enjoy skiing, snowboarding, and other winter activities is due to the resort's marketing as an affordable, family-friendly destination.
She says winter weather that was good for snow making also helped attract visitors.
The winter season started Nov. 22 and ran until April 5. About 255,000 people visited the 60-year-old resort in the Berkshires the previous winter.
The year-round resort in Hancock is now gearing up for the summer season that starts Memorial Day weekend. The facility has rides, mini golf, hiking and biking trails. The photo at right was taken from the resort's website. (AP)
