mahousing.jpg MassHousing, the state's affordable housing bank, said it has approved $390,000 in funding for the creation or preservation of affordable sober housing for men and women in Roxbury, Westfield, Holyoke, Gloucester, and Lowell.

"Affordable sober housing is an extremely valuable resource that is sorely needed across Massachusetts,'' MassHousing executive director Thomas R. Gleason said in a statement.

One recipient of a $75,000 grant is Casa Esperanza, Nueva Esperanza in Roxbury; the grant will help fund the construction of 14 new efficiency units for men and women. Financing partners are the city of Boston, the state's Department of Housing Community Development, and the Federal Home Loan Bank, MassHousing said.
