Chelsea celebrates 100 years of meat and giving
The city of Chelsea will get an early start on the Fourth of July on Wednesday, July 1, as it dedicates a park to recognize the Monkiewicz family and their company, Kayem Foods.
Monkiewicz Park is being established at the corner of Chestnut and Fifth streets.
Kayem was noted this year for introducing a new Fenway Frank with bolder flavor. The Globe reported that the company sold $20 million worth of the hot dogs last year.
Since 1909, Kayem and the Monkiewicz family have given generously to the city and local non-profits, according to a company release.
"We’re very proud of reaching such a rare milestone of 100 years in business, and look forward to the exciting and challenging road ahead," said Matt Monkiewicz, Kayem vice president of marketing. (Staff)
