CloudSwitch hires CEO, raises $8 million
CloudSwitch Inc., a Burlington company that is developing a software appliance for cloud computing, said that John McEleney is its new president and chief executive, and that it has completed a second round of financing for $8 million.
As a recent Globe story noted, cloud computing is a "broad term that refers to services and software that run on computers that you don't need to purchase or operate yourself - they're 'out there,' in the clouds. Essentially, it's a new twist on outsourcing. Cloud computing users pay only for the services they need - much the same way you pay your water bill - which offers the ability to increase or decrease capacity as needed."
In its press release, CloudSwitch said, "Led by Commonwealth Capital Ventures, the $8 million series B round includes initial investors Matrix Partners and Atlas Ventures and brings the company's total funding to more than $15 million."
From 2001 to 2007, McEleney was chief executive at SolidWorks Corp., the US subsidiary of Dassault Systemes S.A., a French company that focuses on computer-aided design.
