Fiserv to shut down in Franklin, cut 100 jobs
Fiserv Inc., which provides technology services to the financial industry, said it plans to shut down its Franklin office and eliminate 100 jobs starting next month. A company spokeswoman said the firm decided to shift to the work to its Houston and St. Louis facilities after reviewing its real estate options when its Franklin lease came up for renewal.
"The consolidation will ultimately improve the scope of services and scale available to the Boston clients and support the future growth of Fiserv," said the company's Lori Stafford-Thomas.
Most of the workers will be let go by October 1. However, at least four of the workers have agreed to relocate to another Fiserv office.
Fiserv, based in Brookfield, Wisc., is a giant in the financial services industry with roughly 20,000 employees worldwide, 16,000 clients, and a stock market value of nearly $7 billion. It was founded in 1984. (By Todd Wallack, Globe staff)
