Message from P. Steven Ainsley: Tentative Agreement with Guild

Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce that The Boston Globe and The Boston Newspaper Guild have reached a tentative agreement to be voted on by Guild members on Monday, July 20th.

This is a constructive step forward in what has been a difficult process for everyone. I want to thank Guild leadership for working with us these past few days to determine the most equitable way to meet the business need of saving $10 million while meeting the Guild's desire for smaller wage reductions than those presented in the previous proposal.

Of course, the proposed contract still asks for significant sacrifices I wish were not necessary. We appreciate everyone's desire to make those sacrifices to help secure the Globe’s future. Details of the tentative agreement will be released by the Guild shortly.

Thank you for your continued dedication to The Boston Globe and Boston.com.
