Tecogen wins grant to help build a better engine
Tecogen Inc., a Waltham company that produces high-efficiency energy systems, has received a $1 million research grant from the California Energy Commission to help create an energy-efficient engine. California offered the grant to pursue designs for engines that meet the state's emissions standards. The Tecogen project was chosen from among 14 competing proposals, according to a press release.
The idea is to modify a four-cylinder car engine to meet emissions standards, but it will also be deisgned to have the ability to run on natural gas, the company said.
"If we are successful, we will have an engine that is incomparable relative to its cost, efficiency, and emissions," said Bob Panora, president of the firm.
Tecogen manufactures heat and power system products, including natural gas engine-driven cogeneration and air conditioning systems for industrial and commercial use.
