The Associated Industries of Massachusetts, the state's largest employer association, said it is initiating a public awareness campaign to help municipal governments solve budget deficits by improving efficiency and reducing costs and to support a proposal under consideration by the Massachusetts Legislature.

"Called 'Mass Reform First,' the campaign will make heavy use of social media and electronic networking to invite Massachusetts residents to become involved in one of the most pressing issues to confront their communities in decades," the association said in a press release. "The centerpiece of the campaign will be support for S.2051/H.1971, a bill in the Massachusetts Legislature that would give cities and towns powerful tools to tighten budgets while continuing to provide the public safety, education, and other services upon which residents depend.
