Bingham McCutchen LLP, one of Boston's largest corporate law firms, has announced plans to merge with McKee Nelson LLP in New York, with the combined firm to use the Bingham McCutchen name.

McKee Nelson's 120 lawyers will bring the total at Bingham McCutchen to roughly 1,120 lawyers worldwide. According to a spokeswoman, there are no layoffs planned, but the firm will assess its personel after the merger is finalized.

This is Bingham McCutchen's 10th merger under chairman Jay Zimmerman, who has led the firm for more than 15 years.

"This is the right combination at the right time," said Zimmerman, in a release. "Legal and regulatory lines are being redrawn and are intersecting in ways they never have before."

Earlier this year, rival law firm Lewis & Bockius LLP recruited a dozen lawyers from Bingham McCutchen.
