GROTON, Conn. - Defense contractor General Dynamics Corp. said Thursday its Electric Boat subsidiary received an $21.6 million contract modification from the Navy for procurement and repair work on the USS Hartford.
The Los Angeles-class attack submarine was damaged in a collision on March 20.
Under the contract, Electric Boat will return the submarine to full-service condition, fabricating a port retractable bow plate and the sail, both off the hull.
The work is expected to be completed by January 2010.
The contract was initially awarded May 21, and with the modification, the total value is now $37.4 million.
Shares of General Dynamics fell 44 cents to $51.47 in afternoon trading.
