Have we got the smartphone apps for you
Two local firms said separately that they are involved in newly launched smartphone apps, and whether you need a prompt to remember where you parked your car or you just want to goggle at some swimsuit model pics on your iPhone, one these apps could have you covered.
First up is Skyhook Wireless, a Boston-based provider of WiFi and hybrid positioning systems. Skyhook said it has partnered with Staron, a provider of mobile software development and consultancy services to mobile technology companies.
One Ovi app from the partnership is "I Parked Here." (Ovi is the online story for Nokia, a Finnish company that makes cellphones and smartphones.)
"I Parked Here will remember where you parked and provide turn by turn directions to return to your car," the press release said. "It also provides a parking meter alarm feature, helping users avoid parking tickets."
I Parked Here can be downloaded in the Nokia Ovi Store for $2.99, the press release said.

On a more recreational front is a new application from Sports Illustrated Group called "SI Swimsuit 2009." SI partnered with Azuki Systems on this one. Acton-based Azuki offers a software service for media companies to deliver a new generation of mobile websites and applications.
And for those who loved the app that transformed their iPhone into a virtual whoopie cushion, the "SI Swimsuit 2009" could be a must-have.
Rather than describe the swimsuit app in our own pedestrian prose, we will leave the field to an SI press release.
"The 'world’s sexiest app' breaks new ground as the first mobile application in the lifestyle category to deliver video of SI’s gorgeous Swimsuit models, hundreds of SI Swimsuit photos as well as scores, schedules, and team information. The application, which retails for $2.99, is the mobile extension of SI Swimsuit – a multimedia franchise which reaches more than 66 million adults. The application features video and photos of all 20 models from the 2009 SI Swimsuit franchise and allows users to create their own daily sports calendar customizable to follow your favorite pro or college teams’ along with your choice of SI Swimsuit model each month."
Don't despair, BlackBerry fans. A swimsuit app for your smartphone is in the works, SI and Azuki say.
