While duffers frolic and pros birdie and par, Evergreen Solar Inc. said that some of its solar panels will be showcased at the Deutsche Bank Championship, a PGA golf tour event.
The Marlborough company, which specializes in silicon wafer manufacturing technology for making solar power products, said that a solar power system using Evergreen Solar panels has been installed on the grounds of the TPC Boston in Norton, the venue for this year's Deutsche Bank Championship.
The event has brought Tiger Woods and other top golfers to the area.
According to Evergreen Solar, its installation is part of a Deutsche Bank Championship "greening initiative" that seeks to ensure that this golf tournament is the "only carbon-neutral event on the PGA TOUR."
The Evergreen Solar installation will not only help "offset our power consumption" throughout the tournament, but it will also help demonstrate the benefits of solar power, the Deutsche Bank Championship's director said in a statement included in Evergreen Solar's press release.
The carbon-neutral golf tournament is officially scheduled to tee off today. To read a story about the event from today's Sport section in the Globe, please click here.
