Raytheon awarded $100m contract with Air Force

Raytheon Co., the Waltham defense contractor, said that it has been awarded a five-year contract worth up to $100 million to improve secure combat identification for the US Air Force.

Raytheon will produce up to 8,000 KIV-77 applique crypto computers for Identification Friend of Foe equipment.

"The KIV-77 safeguards communications and protects war fighters when they need to identify friendly positions during combat," said Jerry Powlen, vice president of the company's Network Centric Systems Integrated Communications Systems division.

Raytheon shares fell 60 cents to $47.37.
