Archdiocese's Labor Guild honors four
The Labor Guild of the Archdiocese of Boston last week honored four leaders from labor, management, government, and the legal profession for their efforts to improve labor-management relations.
The Cushing-Gavin awards, named for the late Cardinal Richard Cushing and the late Reverend Mortimer Gavin, the longtime Labor Guild chaplain, each year recognize ‘‘integrity, professional competence and community concern.’’
Honored were Boston Globe union leader Martin Callaghan, president of the Boston Newspaper Printing Pressmen’s Union Local 3; William F. Dowd, senior vice president of human resources at the utility company National Grid; James Grosso, partner in the Framingham law firm O’Reilly, Grosso & Gross; and Suzanne Bump, state secretary of Labor and Workforce Development.
The Labor Guild was founded more than 60 years ago under the auspices of the archdiocese to promote better relations between labor and management. Today, it has about 1,300 members involved in labor relations, including union officials, corporate executives, arbitrators, mediators, academics, lawyers, and regulators.
