Microsoft Corp. said it is eliminating 800 jobs worldwide, including several dozen in Massachusetts, as part of a larger effort to cut costs and increase efficiency, a company spokesperson said.
The software giant, which has nearly 1,000 Massachusetts employees, said it expects to eliminate less than 4 percent of the local workforce, or fewer than 40 jobs.
The cuts disclosed today are in addition to the 5,000 global layoffs that Microsoft disclosed in January.
When the cuts are completed, Microsoft expects to have a global headcount of 88,000, a company spokesperson said.
