Text a $5 donation to Children's Hospital Boston
Children's Hospital Boston, a provider of pediatric research and care, said it is unveiling its first text-message fund-raising campaign.
The public service announcements airing on New England Sports Network look to raise awareness that potential donors also have a text-message option for making contributions to the hospital, the hospital said; the spots feature New England Revolution soccer star Taylor Twellman, NESN personality Charlie Moore, and Dropkick Murphys frontman Ken Casey, among others.
According to the Children's Hospital press release, people with cellphones can "dial the number '4,' then the letters 'KIDS' to shortcode 20222 to make a $5 donation."
The $5 donation is added to the subscription fees that cellphone users pay to their service providers, a Children's Hospital spokesman said.
"Children’s Hospital Boston understands that every donation, large or small, makes a difference for our patients and their families," Carola Cadley, Children’s Hospital Trust associate vice president of corporate development and marketing, said in a statement. "We hope that 'Text 4 Kids' will be a valuable resource in our effort to close the gap between sickness and health for children."
