The US Department of Labor said that a nearly $6 million grant has been allocated to Massachusetts to "teach workers the skills required in emerging industries, including energy efficiency and renewable energy."

The grant to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development was part of a nationwide series of nearly $190 million in "green job training grants as authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009," said the Department of Labor, which added that this is the third set of green grants awarded in as many weeks. Earlier this month, the Department of Labor said that Massachusetts workers in Suffolk, Norfolk, and Plymouth counties would benefit from a nearly $5 million federal grant to the Utility Workers Union of America; that grant aims to provide safety, technical, and green skills training to displaced workers, older youth, under-employed workers, and disadvantaged adults.
